Partners lives on…

I’m finally home from the closing weekend of Partners at Actors Theatre of Louisville, followed by a trip to DC for the Drama of DNA at the Smithsonian. An exhilarating and exhausting spring capped by cherry blossoms and perhaps the only 3 good days of weather the East Coast will enjoy in 2014. Thank you for sharing them with me.

As the reviews for Partners roll in, here are some of my favorites:

From The New York Times, it’s a “crowd-pleasing comedy of contemporary life.” “Under the direction of Lila Neugebauer, the cast brings plenty of comic zest to Ms. Fortenberry’s well-turned dialogue about those primal matters of young(ish) adulthood: love, sex and money.” Warning: lots of spoilers in this one

From WFPL, the local NPR station, “ “Partners” is a smart, entertaining and insightful examination of power dynamics best casino canada and painful transitions in adult relationships.” And, one of my favorites, “this play is a conversation-starter, one I expect to lead to spirited debates among couples and friends in the hours after the show.” Yes. Please talk. Fight in the lobby. I live for fights in the lobby.

From Broadway World,” ”Partners” is a strikingly vivid snapshot of a generation that doesn’t know what to do with itself.”

From DC Theatre Scene, as part of a longer consideration of the role of criticism, prompted by the ACTA conference: “If you can imagine a single play which will likely have commercial success, it is doubtlessly Dorothy Fortenberry’s Partners, which gently skewers the politically correct and the self-consciously virtuous.” Here’s hoping, you guys.

And, although this review is mixed it provides a useful summary of the Partners experience (and, all right, many of my other plays, too): “I laughed through the first half of the play and then gasped aghast through the rest.” That’s how I roll, guys.

Best of all, Partners is already scheduled for its next production at Live Wire Theatre in Chicago from June 21, 2014- July 20. Let’s do this again!
